Difficult question: A meniscus tear is a tear of the cushions within the knee that give the knee more surface contact area (it takes the load off of the cartilage in your knee to make it last longer). The lateral collateral ligament is a complex set of ligaments on the outside of the knee that keeps the knee stable. It has a role in holding your knee in place, controlling rotation, and augmenting movement.
