Ask for the vaccine: Veterinarians and other people who work with wild animals can ask for rabies vaccinations to get immunity against rabies virus.

Be careful: Do not put yourself in a situation where you might get bitten. Does the refuge test animals for the virus? Maybe random checks would be beneficial.
