Pain from ribs?: Unfortunately, breathing, coughing, and inhaling deeply affects his hairline fracture of his ribs until they heal. Consult his doctor, and see if something can be done for his coughing, and determine if his medicines are causing it too, so they can be adjusted. He will be fine once he quits coughing, and can rest and heal his ribs!

Need evaluation: Hair line rib fracture is not usually extremely painful. Rib fractures do heal barring any complications.
