See Dr. If concerned: Most breast lumps are not cancer. Frequently they are cysts that vary in size, location, tenderness, and shape. I recommend checking one's breasts while lying flat in bed. Elements that are reassuring include lumps that seem fluid- filled, not hard and solid, moveable, tender, symmetrical with the opposite breast, transient, related to menstrual cycle, and that either shrink or are not growing.
