Actually: In reproductive age women who are not on hormonal suppression (birth control) forming cysts is what the ovaries do normally. They are usually small, 2-3cm or less at their largest, then they release the eggs at the time of ovulation. Simple cysts usually resolve on their own after 4-6 weeks.
