Peripheral nerve: If the pain is just in the region from the elbow down, you need to consider a compression either on the ulnar or the median nerve. These are nerves that are peripheral and can be compressed. If there is pain in the elbow that shoots down to the hand, that is the ulnar nerve. If your work requires repetitive use of the arm and hand, this makes the nerves more sensitive.

Sleeping position: The most likely cause is sleeping on the arm wrong. This may cause reversible nerve issues from a compressive force. This has been called "saturday night palsy." the same issue with sleeping position can cause muscle compression or persistent joint misalignment. All of which should resolve in a day or two. If they persist, seek evaluation from your primary care doctor.
