How can you tell if you have a low or high thyroid ? i think i have something that is making me gain weight

TSH: Blood test (thyroid function test) can determine whether you are hyperthyroid or hypothyroid. Hypothyroidism can cause weight gain. Tsh (thyroid stimulating hormone) level would be elevated in hypothyroidism.

Blood tests: Can tell exactly what the function is of your thyroid . If it is too active you might have symptoms of high pulse, trembling, feel palpitations, have trouble sleeping, weakness of muscles. If it is under active you might be constipated , have thinning hair or hair loss, feel cold, feel depressed, feel fatigued even when sleeping enough and possibly gaining weight. Your blood tests can tell both.
