Depends : If you have severe hypothyroidism it could explain the weight gain. Mild elevations in TSH level with normal free T4 are unlikely to be the cause of that weight gain. Making your thyroid hormone levels normal will not decrease the weight you gained but should help you not to gain more. Diet and exercise will be needed.
