A member asked:

Could you get a false positive of cancer from a needle aspiration?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely.: It is possible to get a false positive diagnosis of cancer by needle aspiration biopsy, but very unlikely. A more usual problem with needle aspiration biopsy is a false negative result secondary to sampling error. If you have had a needle aspiration diagnosis and question the accuracy, you can ask to have the slides interpreted by additional pathologists and see what they think.
