Limited utility: The electrocardiogram is only a small part of a cardiac evaluation. For specific questions, such as the heart's electrical rhythm, the ECG is reliable. For other questions, it can have errors in both ways. In other words, the ECG can be abnormal when the heart is normal or the ECG can be normal when the heart is abnormal.
