You don't need to: Weight loss is mostly about changing how you feel about food, limiting portions, and getting out and exercising. Nobody says you have to eat oatmeal.

Oatmeal: I agree that you don't have to eat oatmeal in order to be on a diet. Oatmeal contains soluble fiber and can help to control cholesterol & blood sugar levels. It also has antioxidants. Have you considered mixing in fresh fruits with your oatmeal?
