Frequent Vaseline: Eczema on the body and face is in most cases transient and doesn't leave life long scars in most babies. Eczema occurs due to the skin becoming dry. Some important things to do: 1. Apply vaseline/eczema ointments 4-6 times per day 2. Use luke warm water for baths 3. Don't put soaps in the water for bathing as it leaches fat from the skin. 4. Use small amounts of aveno baby wash/dove soap.

Depends.: One thing for sure: you can't expect eczema of any kind to clear up in only a week. The good news is that babies almost always outgrow their eczema; the bad news is i can't tell you if that will happen in a month or a year. Desonide is a bit strong for a baby's face; try 1% Hydrocortisone (available without prescription), and if that doesn't control it, let a dermatologist have a look.
