How are children tested for cancer?

Similar to adults: Cancer testing is based upon symptoms and commoness of specific cancers in certain age groups. This usually entails xray studies, usually scans, and often blood tests, as bone marrow disorders such as leukemia are among the most common malignancies in children.

General work-up.: A general physical exam with standard blood work is the first thing in any such visit, for any possible concern. Usually if there is anything going on, there will be symptoms already to focus on. Anything serous should show up on physical exam and blood work, which would direct the way toward special tests/procedures to rule out or confirm a diagnosis.
