How at risk for cancer are children?

4 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Small: Around 1 child in 500 will get leukemia and another 1 in 500 will get a brainstem tumor, wilms tumor, neuroblastoma, or one of the less common solid cancers. When i was a kid, all the leukemia patients died; now we cure the vast majority. These differ from adult cancers in that lifestyle is not a factor for any of them. Best wishes.

Low risk: On average, 1 to 2 children develop the cancer each year for every 10, 000 children in the United States. See this overview at the national cancer institute for more information: http://www.Cancer.Gov/cancertopics/factsheet/sites-types/childhood.
