Want to stand out?: Certainly there are many ways to try to channel anxiety away from self destructive behavior. The use of a pacifier can help. Perhaps chewing gum (sugarless?) or keeping hard candy available would be better. The hard candy wrappers could also give you something to fold and manipulate to lessen your desire to hold something else in hand. I encourage you to also work with psychiatrist/therapist.
