Depression, damage: Low vitamin d commonly causes depression. It can also cause poor memory and difficulty concentrating and leads to free radical damage to the brain. Low d also appears to increase risk of alzheimer's disease. Fortunately d deficiency is easy to correct; most adults need 5-8000 iu/day to achieve optimal levels.See http://bit.Ly/1gnxnk0 ; http://www.Sciencedaily.Com/releases/2013/12/131202121101.Htm.

Disputed evidence: There are no studies that will undisputedly correlate vitamin d deficiency with symptoms of dementia. However there are some studies that indicate a trend towards decrease in executive functions of the brain with vitamin d deficiency. Some studies also indicate an increase in cerebral vascular disease with vitamin d deficiency. Therefore it will be prudent to take vitamin d supplements if that.
