Random cough that never goes away but i only cough once in a while what could it be ?

I do not know: Without examining you and getting a comprehensive history and physical examination it would be impossible to tell you why you have a periodic cough. Some possibilities would include possible asthma variant cough, post nasal drip, possible medications, smokers cough form periodic irritation, etc. Stop smoking and get an evaluation. Good luck.
