TMJ: Tmj disorder is usually caused by bruxism (chronic teeth grinding or clenching) or a bad bite. Symptoms can include any or all of the following: pain in the jaw, ears, neck and shoulders, chronic headache or migraines, chipped, worn or fractured teeth, pain in the teeth. If your symptoms are recurrent, or have lasted for longer than 7-10 days, you should see your dentist for an examination.

Not every time: Tmj pain is often called "the great impostor" as it's clinical signs and symptoms can vary so greatly. Additionally, the perception of pain is a personal thing. What one person perceives as tightness can be perceived as pain by someone else. If it is muscle pain, moist warm compresses should lighten the feeling. An evaluation by a dentist well versed in tmd treatment might well be a good idea.
