Dentist is best: There are over the counter products that people use but many have adverse reactions primarily with gum irritation and burning. The final result of teeth whitening is also not as good as professional from a dentist. The best way to get your teeth whitened is from a dentist. Many dentists these days offer very discounted whitening as part of a new patient exam. Check your area.

See a Dentist: OTC products have limited efficacy, and in the long run will cost you a lot with limited brightness change. Fluoride containing products will strengthen enamel, especially if it is not already damaged. There's a reason for professional dental care. Over time it's your least expensive most effective choice. Trying to do this on your own is neither cost effective or efficient. See a Dentist.
