Insufficient space: Not enough room for a tooth to erupt and be maintained can lead to many problems including decay, periodontal disease or crowding. Wisdom teeth can have a greater incidence of cyst formation associated with them as well so regular monitoring is appropriate. This does not mean that all should be removed. Pain during the eruption process is common and can last for several weeks intermittently.

Oral surgeon: You cannot determine which wisdom teeth are problematic by looking in your mouth. See a board certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon for exam/recommendations.
