What extracts?: Yes, glandular extracts will be digested but possibly some might be available to your body. What extracts did this naturopath what you to buy? Without knowing what kind of training this naturopath has had or what kind of evaluation s/he performed, i can't comment on legitimacy. There are naturopathic colleges in canada and the us which provide solid educations, but not all "naturopaths" attend.

Most is digested: Supplements with glandular extracts are supposed to contain amino acid hormones in the product. These of course would be digested and have no effect. Some glandular extracts might have a few small molecules which could get absorbed with a random effect. Since these supplements are not regulated, there is little confidence in what in fact is actually in the preparation.

Proven vs unproven: You're right. Most likely, digested. By definition, "alternative" is different than modern western medicine. Generally any drug, herb, treatment, or procedure that stands up to rigorous scientific scrutiny is included in modern medicine. The problem is that many alternative practices, herbs etc do not stand up to scientific scrutiny and cannot be shown to work. Be careful and watch your wallet.
