Can you tell me when an ear infection spreads to the blood -- what is this called?

Never seen it: In more than 3 decades as a physician I have never seen this happen. It does occasionally spread to the mastoid air cells in the skull bones, (mastoiditis) but I have never seen it as the cause of sepsis (blood infection).
