A member asked:

Help? i have been smoking for 4 months already. i smoke 3-4 cigerettes per day. if i quit now, can my lung recover to its normal state?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes they will: If you only smoked for 4 months, the damage is generally minimal (esp with 3-4 cigs/day ). Once people stop, the damage begins to undo itself almost immediately. The pigment that tobacco produces in the lungs will not go away, but will lighten and lung function, if not already damaged, will be normal. Cancer risks go way down. Healing begins the day you stop, but may take many months to be full.
