Genetic risk: There is no one gene that causes a psychiatric illness. It is a multifactorial condition (=many things, both genetic and environmental, play a role). It is more like diabetes or high blood pressure: they may run in the family, and may be caused by a collection of risk genes that increase susceptibility. Or by environmental factors. There is no genetic test currently available to test for it.
