Red bump: The bumpmmay be a benign structure known as torus palatinus. On the other hand it may be due to trauma or hot or spicy foods.In addition it could be a malignant tumor. Therefore, it is important to fonsult your dentist or an oral surgeon.

Sooner then later: Unless you are very sick it is not an emergency, but if you have a fever (over 100.4) then you should have it seen and cultured. If it is tender it could be an infection in or around the tonsil. That would also make it very hard to swallow.
