Ultrasound done at 6 and 7 weeks. at 7 weeks ob saw heartbeat and said to count back 5 weeks to figure out conception date. is this correct?

Yes this is correct.: It is an approximation, but should be close to the conception date, say /- 3 or 4 days. Caution: it absolutely will not discriminate between 1 or 2 days apart.
