A member asked:

My ear became irritated and started hurting after the doctor irrigated it to treat impacted wax. do i have swimmer's ears or has my ear just been probed too much?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See ENT Doc: Your answer is quite good. If the irrigation was performed by a family doctor and not a specialist, then you could have a mild external otitis (inflammation of the skin of the ear canal) or all of the wax was not removed. When wax becomes impacted (wax on or near the ear drum) then a specialist needs to remove it. Remember, never use q-tips to clean out your ears.
