Need exam: The best way to determine whether or not you have a hernia is a physical exam - primary care ok. It also depends on the location of the pain on the abdominal wall, and whether or not there is a lump associated with the area of pain. Sometimes, radiological imaging is necessary, and in severe cases, even exploratory surgery is utilized, usually in the form of laparoscopy. Hope this helps!
