Strain vs mild tear: You may have a abdominal muscle strain or partial tear. Evaluation by an orthopaedic surgeon would be indicated.

Probably strain: The odds would favor a strain as it is more common than a hernia. A hernia may also be associated with a bulge under the skin. If no bulge, still possible to have a hernia, but less likely. If you are still concerned, see your primary care provider for an exam.
