Best to wait: No, best to wait especially if you had an open hernia repair. If i see a a patient with a hernia who also has excess skin, then we do a combined procedure with the surgeon as it limits upper abdominal scars, gives a stronger repair as the divarication is repaired first, the hernia is repaired with a laparoscopic mesh, and an abdominoplasty is carried out as well.

Not advised: No it is best to wait 6-9 months for several reasons: 1) allow skin contraction 2) allow bowels to accommodate to new domain 3) assess integrity/stability of repair 4) lower risks of clotting by waiting months between major surgery.
