Dad 54 yrs old - admitted in hospital for bipolar manic. Now s normal- still in medication. Is episode over? Shd he cont med. S med keepin him normal?

Sleep hygiene: Be sure your environment is conducive to sleep (dark room, quiet, comfortable temperature). Do meditation or calming exercises. If you are not sleeping, contact your doctor. Even though you were released from the hospital, you may need medication or different medication. Speak to your doctor and describe all of your symptoms.

Many symptoms: Symptoms of a mania include loss of sleep for over 3 days with increased and excessive energy. Often there are racing thoughts, pressured speech and difficulties explaining yourself due to too many thoughts. Other symptoms include grandiose thoughts (like beliefs of having special powers or strength), a tendency to engage in dangerous and risk-taking behaviors, and at times hallucinations.

That being said, a personality test known as the MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2nd Edition) can pick up on manic tendencies as well as a host of other mental phenomena.
