MRI will give diagno: For knee injuries, the MRI is the most sensitive test in picking up problems but is very expensive! you need to be up front about your financial circumstances. Many hospitals have charity care available, but you have to ask for it up front and not after the care is rendered.

Avoid middleman: Seek care with orthopedic surgeon for best possible physical exam that will then point you to the best diagnostic study to determine extent of injury.

Walk in Clinic: I believe your first choice should be your family clinic. But, if you want the most expensive choice is the emergency room. Not all knee injuries need x-rays. We actually try to avoid unnecessary x-rays and radiation exposure in family medicine.
