Sore gums: Generalized sore gums are indicative of gum disease. Please see your dentist for an evaluation and cleaning above and below the gumline. With regards to being late the two are not related, however if you are pregnant healthy gums and excellent home care are a must. You can take a hpt. If negative wait a week and try again. See your obgyn and be sure to let your dds know you may be pregnant.

Could be related: Gums become more sensitive and can become swollen during pregnancy. See your dentist, tell him you may be pregnant. Have a thorough cleaning done and follow his oral hygiene instructions. Do a pregnancy test. If positive (congratulations) call your physician for referral to obgyn.

CRITICAL: Improved oral hygiene is critical but even more so during pregnancy. Often due to morning sickness, gum swelling, change in dietary habits, and overall bodily change dictates that your home care must be better and not to ignore going to get the teeth cleaned by a professional.
