A member asked:

4 year old has fever of 105.3 in ear. started yesterday. giving 1.5 tsp motrin every 6 hrs. can i give it more often & when should he go to er?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fever treatment: Alternate Ibuprofen and tylenol (acetaminophen) every 3 hours. Use cooling measures (cool baths/compresses). The fever is quite high though may still be related to a virus. I'm assuming hes vaccinated. If he is well appearing when afebrile, no significant pain (ie ear pain) or trouble breathing then wait until the am. Viruses may cause fever for a few days but if remains this high, would see pediatrician sooner.
