A member asked:

Is it normal to have gum tissue sloughing off after a crown prep (in the area of the prep)? if not, what are the possible/likely causes?

Tissue sloughing: Tissue sloughing is not normal under any circumstances. Did you have an impression taken after the crown preparation? You may have had a reaction to the materials used to retract the gum tissue, or to the impression material. Or perhaps a reaction to any anesthetic used in the gum tissue around the tooth. In any case, return to have your dentist examine the area.
