Not necessarily : Would there be a smell, but usually there is or a discharge . If you can't feel it and are still freaked, go in for an exam. If it is there your doc will find it and remove it. It would be easy do don't panic !

Tampons left inside: Usually presents w strong odor, discharge , pelvic pain ; fever due to possible bacterial infection .The most feared is toxic shock syndrome(tss).Yes you can have tampons left inside without you knowing because they can turn sideways ; compressed to the far end of the vagina.The string gets drawn in ; tampon is forgotten! you will need to see your OB or go to er asap if you have fever to get it out.
