Possibilities...: The possible etiologies of a chronic cough include bronchospasm from any cause, gerd, post-nasal drip or even a combination of issues. All of these have entirely different treatments so, if the cough persists, your friend should see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment. If your friend is a smoker, smoking cessation is strongly encouraged and a doctor can help with this as well.
