A member asked:

I'm confused, so when ultrasound determines how far along in pregnancy a woman is, does it tell how old is the baby instead of how long since lmp?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

LMP plus 2 wks: An ultrasound measures the size of the baby, of course. The report is given as 'menstrual weeks', which adds 2 wks to the length of time the baby has been developing. A full term pregnancy is considered to be 40 weeks, but the baby is actually developing for 38 wks. Hope that helps.
