Timestamping: The actual exposure time to influenza is impossible. You may have been exposed to someone with symptoms 5 hours ago and you know it, but you could have been exposed to someone with no symptoms several days ago.

Viral Illnesses: Nope. Not likely at all. Symptoms take a day or two to appear after an exposure to these common cold or flu viruses.

Influenza: Unlikely. The typical incubation period for influenza is 1—4 days (average 2 days). Adults shed influenza virus from the day before symptoms begin through 5—10 days after illness onset. However, the amount of virus shed, and presumably infectivity varies. You may have been exposed earlier without knowing it.
