Depends: Was there prior traumatic injury (a fall, car accident, etc)? If so, your jaw may have sustained a fracture and healed with poor alignment and may need surgical repair. See a dentist who is capable of TMJ evaluation/treatment to evaluate and determine a treatment specific for your problem.

TMJ TMD: Temporo-mandibular disorder is the second most frequent cause of orofacial pain after dental pain. TMJ may refer pain to other areas, causing a headache, earache, jaw pain, neck pain and toothache. Proper diagnosis is the key to the successful treatment. See an orofacial pain practitioner for a consultation. They are the expert in this field.
