Ask the doc: Easy one. Ask the doctor how many babies were seen in ultrasound. I dont think a doctor would forget to mention twins but if you are concerned simply ask.

A 30-year-old female asked:
If an ultrasound was done at 14 weeks is it accurate?

Gender determination: In one study, an accuracy rate of assigning fetal gender was found to be 98% by angle of 30 degree studies and 92% by baby scans at the 14 week point. However, the percentages won’t matter much, if your fetus’ gender was incorrectly classified & that was particularly important to you. Sometimes it is hard to determine.

A 30-year-old female asked:
How off would an ultrasound be done at 14 weeks compare to 8-11 wks?

Less accurate: 14 weeks places you at the beginning of second trimester, which makes the ultrasound margin of error at +/- 2 weeks. Even in first trimester there is a 1 week error margin.

A 30-year-old female asked:
What does it mean when an ultrasound at 20 weeks is accurate within 2wks?

18 to 22 weeks: It means it could be off by 2 weeks. It could be 18 weeks or it could be 22 weeks or anywhere in between. It is just a comment on the accuracy of the ultrasound. The ultrasound is usually quite accurate, but it does have a range and the accurate within 2 weeks is just commenting on that. If you combine that with your last period you should be quite accurate.

Internet Medicine: Internet medicine has limits. We have not examined you or seen your ultrasound. This is a question to ask the physician who is managing your care, the one who looked at the ultrasound.

A 22-year-old female asked:
Could an ultrasound at 13 weeks be wrong & you could actually be 17 weeks ?

No: There variability in the ultrasound measurement results would be about one week. if the baby is growing normally the ultrasound estimate would not be off/ incorrect by 4 weeks.
