Depends see a DDS: This is an unusual situation. If the permanent tooth is underneath the baby tooth it will usually resorb (dissolve) the roots of the baby tooth and erupt. You should have a panoramic x-ray taken to see the development of the permanent tooth. Is it in the correct position to erupt? Your dentist can tell you better with a radiograph.

Questionable: Once root of permanent tooth has apexified (closed off) the tooth looses its eruptive potential.
