A member asked:

I have baby teeth that need to be extracted, my grownup teeth are full grown underneath, when pulled how long will it take for teeth to grow into place?

Depends see a DDS: This is an unusual situation. If the permanent tooth is underneath the baby tooth it will usually resorb (dissolve) the roots of the baby tooth and erupt. You should have a panoramic x-ray taken to see the development of the permanent tooth. Is it in the correct position to erupt? Your dentist can tell you better with a radiograph.

Questionable: Once root of permanent tooth has apexified (closed off) the tooth looses its eruptive potential. Removing over-retained baby teeth may be helpful, but in all likelihood the teeth will have to be helped into place. You should be under the supervision of a qualified Orthodontic Specialist. Please schedule an Initial Orthodontic Examination (usually free) and take your x-rays with you to the appoi
