It varies: Sometimes the early stages of cervical hpv in the form of cervical intraepithelia neoplaia(cin i) actually regress( go away) on its own without treatment, and others times it can take up to 7 years to progress to actual cervical cancer dependant upon many variables such as the ability of the immune system to defend the body against the the rapidly dividing cells.

Varies: Most people infected with hpv are able to eliminate the virus. The latent period for the development of cancer is variable and depends on the strain of hpv virus, genetic make of the individual, use of tobacco, hormonal status and immune status. The latent period is usually measured in years.
