Vegetables: Always start with vegetables and generally best to start with one color vegetables and continue with that color for a whole week before switching. Use peas one days green beans the next, etc.

Rice cereal: Rice cereal is a traditional first food because of its low allergic potential. Keep a calendar available and try one new item no more often than every 4 days, to allow the items to run through the full system before another. Note any associated issues like spit up or diarrhea.Once a food item has been tried with no problems it is safe for anytime.Offer new when you have time to watch for problems

Slow introduction: There are many recommendations regarding first foods. Rice cereal ( major brand ) mixed with breastmilk, and then introduction of one type of baby food every 3-4 days will allow you to closely observe for any possible reactions. Reactions to watch for at this age include very subtle changes in behavior, feeding, rash and breathing difficulty. If any of these occur, an ED visit is recommended.
