Try avoiding sodium: Cutting back on your salt intake may help. Your weight is appropriate. Do you have a family history of high blood pressure? Often it is impossible to avoid taking medicines.

See answer: For your height, your weight is good. All of the following may be helpful ways to control BP with or without meds: 30-60 min of regular physical activity most days of the week; eating diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products; limit sodium to 1500 mg a day or less; limit alcohol intake to 1-2 drinks/day; avoid tobacco; limit caffeine intake; and reduce stress.
