A member asked:

I have been diagnosed with osteoarthrities in both my knees. is there anyway to confirm if a tkr is absolutely necessary or not? i have the mri report

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Elective surgery: Tkr is never required. This is elective surgery. The x-ray does not make the decision you do. There are 4 basic types of treatment. Medications, physical therapy, injections and surgery. Taping, medial wedge insets, weight loss and physical therapy have been shown to help the most in research. The time to have tkr is when the other treatments don't do enough or your knee is unstable.
