Splint and rest: Ganglion cysts are noncancerous lumps that most commonly develop along the tendons or joints of your wrists or hands. These cysts do not need treatment unless they are painful and persistent. Many of them will resolve with rest. While there are accounts of patients bursting these cysts with a heavy object, there is also the possibility of aggravating the cyst. If necessary, see a hand surgeon.

Depends: Many wrist ganglions are not painful and do not need to be treated. When they do cause problems such as pain (at rest or with activity) treatment may be indicated. I treat ganglions 1 of three ways: 1. Needle aspiration, 2. Steroid joint injection, 3. Surgical excision. See a hand specialist for and evaluation and to discuss the best treatment for you. Until consider ice and nsaids.
