Negative symptoms: Negative symptoms of schizophrenia or other psychotic disease are social withdrawal, lack of motivation, anhedonia, flat affect, cognitive failing. The most likely explanation is that there is some structural damage to the prefrontal cortex, affected glutamate pathways, and/or serotonin deficiencies. There is still need for research in that area.

Dopamine: It is hypothesized that deficient transmission of dopamine at D1 receptors in the Prefrontal cortex of the brain may be a cause for negative Schizophrenia symptoms.
