Cardiac output: Cardiac output is measured in terms of stroke volume times heart rate. Each beat of the heart a stroke volume of about 70 ml is pumped, with a resting heart rate of around 70 beats per minute, you pump around 5 liters per minute. Of course, during exercise these numbers go up. Cardiac muscle fibers are organized so that if they are stretched by increased volume they pump harder.
