Gunshot wounds: To the head and "survivability" have advanced very slowly with the advancement of surgical technique, pre-hospital care, emergency department care and the technology of life support (a topic too broad to break into it's parts). However, keep in mind that gunshot wounds to the head still create the same damage they did 50 years ago and that damage can't yet be mitigated unfortunately.
